About Us

The Mobile branch of the People of Praise began in 1985 as 20 people from several charismatic communities heard God’s call to a deeper community life. A family of families, we have shouldered one another’s burdens and rejoiced in one another’s joys as we grow together in Christ. All our members have enrich our lives and our love.

We reach out to serve the city through prayer meetings, Fellowship Seminars and Holy Spirit Weekends. We join with the branches in Mississippi and Louisiana to organize a People of Praise summer camp enjoyed by our children, as well as children of friends and relations. Many of us with children in college have joined the workforce. We thrive in service roles to church and school. We have worked with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for the disadvantaged, and individual members serve in pregnancy crisis centers, prolife activities, home-schooling, and various church outreaches, often serving in leadership roles. We are married and single and single again; we are mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters; we are teachers, engineers, medical technicians, librarians, social workers, lawyers, secretaries, and business men and women.

Mobile, located on a large and beautiful bay, is small enough to exemplify the virtues of Southern neighborliness and hospitality. We have an established symphony orchestra, opera, small but excellent museums, and numerous community theaters. A thriving state university, a small, Jesuit liberal arts college, and a Baptist university enrich the intellectual life of the city. Beautiful beaches are an hour away, and we have enjoyed many picnics and beach parties on the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. Most of us can pop in to visit one another in ten minutes’ time. We are also easy driving distance from our brothers and sisters in Biloxi (one hour) and New Orleans (two hours), and we are very blessed to enjoy frequent activities and close relationships with members of our sister branches. We enjoy a rich life, and we invite y’all to come and see us here, for a visit or for a longer stay.
